Dear kitsuni Team,
I want to connect the HDMI eARC reciever connector to my design header (I2S-IN). Can you please help me in this regard?
PFA attahced header so that I can attach the HDMI eARC reciever connector to appropriate pin connections
Thanks
hdmi and any hdmi type of connection is NOT compatible with. Damage will potentially occur if you plug hdmi video connections to i2s input of our dacs or any other product with i2s. i2s is a protocol and shares no similarity to hdmi connections from a tv or Blu-ray player etc… there are diff voltages sent through these connections. some devices exist that can translate hdmi to i2s. however in our experience many of them convert poorly. fwiw, I use a KTE May and KTE Serene for our home speaker setup with TV. I use hdmi output from our TV to an Nvidia shield pro which is imo the best streaming device for video like netflix, prime video, youtube, disney, hbo whatever else as its an android OS. The KTE May is connected directly via usb and good audio and video playback is achieved this way. Its far better than using toslink as a connection from tv to dac. I use a RF controlled usb switchbox between a few devices the May is used. Such as a sugarcube SC2+ phono device that removes pops and clicks from vinyl albums.. also have an OPPO bluray player with oppomod.com conversions and mods that add an i2s output connection that is configured for Holoaudio pin out and connects directly to KTE May i2s input. Holoaudio Red can connect connect to the May dac i2s-2 input. Sorry for the long reply, but hopefully its helpful or insightful to help in ways to connect home theatre devices with our products. plus avoid damage by plugging in hdmi video to i2s. please don’t do this!
Thanks for your responce,
Of course, I couldn’t connect standard HDMI to I2S. let me summarise the query,
HDMI eARC has two signals (I2S- Clock, WS, Serial data, I2C-SCL, SDA) for audio transmission and controlling, In my understanding HDMI has various modes like in the above connector shown on this page. I want the HDMI eARC Host(TV side) connector pinout signals (1-19 pins) as well as HDMI eARC receiver side pinout signals so that I can manage the soundbar system using HDMI eARC.
hdmi eARC is hdmi video type connection with ethernet as well as audio return channel.
ive never heard of any hdmi connection that also has i2s protocol as well… our dac does not support hdmi input. only INPUT for i2s protocol devices… for example the HoloAudio Red. the May has two i2s inputs and can be configured with either Holo, alt1,alt2 or alt3 settings. these pin out settings are mentioned in the product manual for reference.
as far as you using your sound bar with your tv, I cant offer support for this.
fwiw, our home setup has a samsung tv connected to an nvidia shield pro, and the may dac is connected to the nvidia shield pro usb port so may can output to a Serene preamp. this allows for a great audio connection to theatre use applications. not sure if this is helpful, but ive nevernheard of HDMi eARC that supports what you are saying… what device are referencing or what device manual states it has this capability.
Also, I want to know the 4 modes of HDMI working
HOLO, alt1, alt2, alt3
these modes are mentioned in detail in the manual. if you lost the printed manual you can download the digital version on the product page.
May – https://www.kitsunehifi.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/May_user_manual.pdf
Spring3 – https://www.kitsunehifi.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Spring3_Manual.pdf
the most common i2s protocol pin out in products is often the psaudio type which we label as Alt2… and holoaudio i2s pinout is basically the same other than dsd channels being reversed. other options are for other common configs.
Hi there,
I’ve been enjoying a Node N130 through a Spring 3 KTE very much the past couple years. Now I’d like to also connect a Shield Pro and Oppo BluRay player like you describe here. For the BluRay player I’ll add the i2s card you suggest. It sounds like I should use a USB switcher to toggle between the N130 and the Shield Pro. Do you recommend one or have any advice on what to look for in one? I’ve been googling but not finding much specific advice. Thanks!
it depends on your needs. the one i use is this:

and adapters :

but you may know best what your needs are.
Hi, could I confirm the i2s pins to use on the shanling ET3 and the Holo May? They seem the same other than pins 15 and 16 which are mute and dsd_det respectively. It seems that if pin 16 dsd_det is not connected, my ET3 source will not play dsd?
we offer the most common i2s pin out settings yet are not compatible with all the smaller companies out there doing different pin outs. I’m not familiar with a Shanling ET3. MOST brands who want to have some sort of generic compatibility will at least offer PSAUDIO type i2s pin out. We have this PSAUDIO i2s pinout as ALT2. I don’t know if your ET3 can be configured for this.
Shanling ET3 is PS Audio compatible i2s, rum mine into a PS Audio Directstream dac over i2s
